FAQ!

Over time, I have gotten several questions that were asked so often that I felt the need to write this up. As much as I love answering questions, please refer to this FAQ before you ask me something! Someone else may have asked the same thing way before.

Thank you!

What art program/tablet do you use? What fonts?
I use Photoshop CS5 for a majority of my artwork/gifs. I sometimes use Pencil, MSPaint, and online art programs. As for tablet, I use Wacom Intuos3

For fonts I generally use some variety of "Century Gothic". But in my comics I use "Anime Ace" for speech bubbles and "Gills Sans MT" for titles.

What size are your nuzlocke comics?
I don't have a set length but I do set the comic width to be 700 px wide. Length can vary from 7000-10000px. And some comics I go by paper dimensions.

How long does it take to draw your comics/art/etc?
Doodles usually take a few minutes.
Nuzlocke comics take 5-7 days (provided I take about 5 hours a day to work on the strip). Artwork can vary from 1-6 hours or more.

During med school though, I barely have time to get in even an hour of drawing so...it might take weeks to produce a comic strip.

Can you draw something for me? Art trade?
Unless I feel like it and you are a close friend, I will NOT take any requests. This also applies to trades. I rarely take many of these because I simply do not feel like drawing them (there are also trades that are never fulfilled, etc). But I DO take commission fairly reliably.

To see the status of whether I will take trades/requests/commissions, go here: [link]

Please give me some art/comic tips?
I am not sure if I am well-versed to do this but...for the most part my tumblr's tutorial tag might help you a bit. If you already had read that...here's are some other tips.
  • Study the hell out of the things you want to draw: Like drawing Humans? Animals? Cartoon characters? Anime? Look up some reference pictures and photos (photos are better) and practice drawing different kinds of whatever subject you wish to draw. It will not always come out nicely at first and will be hard. But in the end, you will get the hang of it and utilize those skills developed during practice to draw other things.
  • Synthesize your own style out of others: There is no harm in copy and mimicking styles because you like them but you will probably deviate from those art styles and end up with your own. That might seem very disappointing but over time you will incorporate different things into your style (as rudimentary as it might look at first) and get something you will be more or less happy with.
  • Plan comic/art/prokectss out: You can make short spontaneous lolcomics all the time but for more longer projects, plan things out. Make scripts or plot blurbs; write out/design your character and possible development plans; thumbnail your strips or have a distinct plan before starting. And even keep a schedule for comicking. Little organization things will keep you sane and help you chug along.
  • Keep an open mind: Despite having certain expectations on what you want in a picture, your hands might not be able to produce exactly what you want; and that is okay. Your mind's artistic vision might be far more advanced than your artistic skills, which will challenge you and hopefully spur you to improve. Just keep that in mind and don't be disappointed!

Can I critique your work?
You are always free to provide me any feedback on any of my drawings (be as harsh as you like). Just comment or send a note and I definitely will consider them.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN I WILL WRITE A REPLY TO EVERY CRIT I GET. But be assured that I have read them at some point and will try to use it in future works. Unless I really feel like a work is really really flawed and unviewable, I will not redraw it. (I occasionally delete works off my gallery however).

I always strive to improve, even if the progress does not show immediately.

I want to be your friend!
Talk to me regularly, be friendly and patient. I am more than open to conversation and willing to be friends with almost anyone.

What is Nuzlocke?
Look here [link]

Do you play nuzlocke via cartridge or emulator? If emulator, what kind and where can I get the roms?
I play all my nuzlockes on an emulator, generally I go for Desmume. (I used No$GBA for Diamond and the rest on Desmume)

As for finding the ROMs, I usually get them through friends. For instance, my White game was given to me via an expired megaupload link. They should not be hard to find via google or something.

Give me some Nuzlocke game/comic tips!
For game tips, check this thread: [link]
For drawing tips, just refer to the previous art tip question before.

Can you add more [IDK SHIPPING/CHARACTERS] in the comic??
No, I already have the script planned out and I do not plan to change it.

Can I draw/write about your ocs/nuzlocke characters? Or cameo them in my comic?
Please do it! And link it to me so I can see it...I really appreciate when people draw my characters.

Do you script the Nuzlocke while you play or after you finish?
After I finish, I look at my game notes and plan a overall plot

Which Nuzlocke runs do you read/follow?
I have not read a lot of runs recently so I cannot really recommend any off my head...just search the nuzlocke forums and I guarantee you will find something you'd like.

End of Med Year 1 FYI + FANIME

Journal Entry: Thu May 2, 2013, 5:42 PM

I will officially be done with the first year of medical school on the 22nd of May. Until then, I will not be around too much; however, I will still be available to answer questions via replies/notes/email.  For those who commissioned me, I will keep you updated as necessary for they are in various stages of sketch/lineart at the moment.

As for the #031, I will try to get that out before June starts but I cannot promise anything. This is because I am also doing artwork for this Art Show called "Battle City" by June 1st...you should check it out here (hint: search "K Lee" to find me in the artist list): [link]

Then AFTER the 22nd, I will be hanging out with :iconearl-greyxx: and her peeps for FANIME! If any of my watchers are gonna be there, let me know! Hopefully we can at least say hi or something~

Thank you so much for your patience.

I absolutely adore your nuzlocke! I think I've read it like +10 times already.

Oh sweet! I can't believe you're going to Fanime! This must be my lucky year since it's my first time going. It hurts my pride that it took so long for me to finally experience Fanime since I'm such a whore/otaku for anime, animations, and manga. Hopefully we'll see each other. I'll be cosplaying as female!Jack Frost just btw.

I think I would explode with happiness if Haisi made a cameo in the white nuzlocke.

Ah I have a question for you, I'm about to start my own nuzlocke/comic of sorts for Black/white and i have to do it traditionally for now since i don't have the funds for the software and stuff. Plus I just am not comfortable with drawing on my pc yet. Do you have any tips on things to look out for when i draw the comic? (for now I've been writting it out like a story so that I have something to base the drawings off of)

(I saw the note before this comment, sorry)

I guess the difficulty of drawing the nuzlocke is mostly trying to convey tension and emotion. Thumbnailing helps a great deal and making notes on how to advance characters is invaluable.
