Thought this could have been the HGSS female protag design...I consider Lyra and Kris to be the same; Maybe Kris used to dye her hair blue and go out as a tomboy (...yes, I think Lyra is like a younger version of Kris)
So I drew up this one to refer to the old Kris design...but still keeping the Lyra-ish look. Sugimori-ish style also as a bonus :>

I think Lyra was meant to be Kris and they just got carried away redesigning her. The proof is in the pigtails. They probably wanted her hair to be a natural color because they do that with all player characters, and things escalated from there. This image shows a nice in-between.
